Opening up your lunch box, you expect to find your normal mixture of baby carrots, a slightly-mushed sandwich and a clementine. But today is different. Instead of the food you swore you had packed that morning, there's a mysterious ______. What happens next? Finish this story.
It's your character's birthday, and his/her friends throw him/her a party. One of the gifts has no card attached, and your character doesn't know who it's from. Opening the box, your character finds (choose one)...
- an engagement ring. - a poisonous snake. - a hand-drawn map with an X marking a location not far from your character's house. - a photograph that appears to be your character kissing someone that s/he has no memory of ever having met. - a magic wand. - a horoscope, warning your character to beware of a false friend. - a plane ticket. - a passport with your character's picture and a false name. - a set of binoculars. When your character looks through them s/he sees what appears to be a different world. Think of what else might be in the box and write a short story. http://www.creative-writing-now.com Put two action characters/superheroes in an elevator. Imagine their conversation and write about it.
Example: Scooby Doo and Batgirl Use one of the following lines to inspire a short story. Include the line anywhere in your story.
Do you think it is easier to write a picture book or a novel? Write a paragraph with THREE reasons why.
Make a list of as many picture books as you can remember-try to include at least 10 on your list. Choose your favorite children's book to write about and share why you loved it. Who read it to you? Was it funny? Sad? What was the message? Describe the illustrations. Be prepared to share your reflection with the class.
